Weight Loss Diets

A weight loss diet is generally regarded as any diet that a person goes on in order to lose weight. There are thousands of different types of weight loss diets available. Some weight loss diets, such as The Atkins Diet have become incredibly popular over the last few years. Unfortunately while some diets may benefit the person on them, many of them are quite dangerous and actually do more harm than good in the long.


If you are trying to losing weight and are considering starting a weight loss diet, be aware of this. You don’t need to really follow a specific weight loss diet but rather you just need to make some better choices about the types of food that you are eating. In fact it is well documented that most people who try rigorously to stick to one diet fail in the long term. All you need to do is follow some simple advice about healthy eating and you will find that the weight drops off you naturally. Furthermore you will, be less stressed and much more relaxed ensuring your long term success.

Lets look at what constitutes a healthy weight loss diet. Remember to try and incorporate these foods into as much of your daily diet as possible. Not only will it help you lose weight but you will also be doing wonders for your health.

Food to feature for a healthy weight loss diet

1. Fruit and Veg

I’m sure that you know this but really you should be eating as much fruit and veg as possible. The current recommendation of 5 portions of fruit and veg per day is probably too low! Aim to eat at least 9 portions of fruit and veg per day.

2. Oily Fish

Make a habit of eating at least 3 portions of oily fish per week. The types of fish such as Mackerel, Herring an Tuna.

3. Lean Meats

Chicken is an excellent choice, make sure though that you eat it with the skin off.

4. Pulses and Beans

Eat plenty of pulses and beans.

Honest if you followed a weight loss diet that constituted the above you would find that the weight just drops off naturally.

Foods to avoid for a healthy weight loss diet

1. Processed Foods and Microwave Meals

As tempting as it may be try and avoid eating processed or microwave meals. They are usually high in salt and fat and are often of poor nutritional value.

2. Sweets, Crisps and Chocolate.

Try replacing unhealthy snacks such a sweets and chocolate with more healthy ones such as an apple or banana.

3. Junk Food and Takeaways

Of course it’s ok to have the occasional takeaway or burner king but really if you are serious about losing weight then try and restrict them to one meal a week. Most takeaways are extremely high in calories and fat can add inches to your waist line.

4. Excessive Alcohol Consumption

While a small glass of red wine can do you know no harm, alcohol is loaded with calories and excessive consumption is definitely bad. Restrict your alcohol intake to 1 small glass of red wine. Avoid binging on pints of lager and spirits.

So you can see that if you are trying to lose weight you don’t necessarily have to follow a certain weight loss diet. Instead just try to make better choices about the types of food that you eat and you will notice the pounds just falling off.
